Volunteer Appreciation: Marty S.

marty Our volunteers are the life blood of our humane work here at BHS, and we’d like to take time to recognize those who go above and beyond to make sure our furry animals are loved and comfortable.

One such individual is Marty S., who has been with us for five years and has selflessly donated nearly 800 hours of her time; most of which is spent doing laundry and dishes. She also spends quite a bit of time walking the fat cats on harnesses and socializing the stubborn, cranky cats. She’s a retired school teacher who travels the US to play her fife in Civil War reenactments and other events.

Furry Feature: Clover

“A good friend is like a four-leaf Clover, hard to find & Lucky to have!”

Like many of us, Clover has had her fair share of being misunderstood. This sweet Terrier Pit mix was brought to Butte Humane Society as a stray in July 2015.

While very energetic and full of loving excitement, Clover has a bit of a hard time warming up to other animals as she thinks smaller dogs and cats are ready for a game of chase. Her unique needs and breed mix have made it quite the challenge to find her forever home, but we’re not giving up!

Through generous contributions from donors like you, we are able to continue to provide loving care and shelter for animals like Clover despite the challenges they may face.

Spay & Neuter Days

February is National Spay and Neuter Month! We are proudly partnering up with several animal-loving businesses in the community to help increase spay and neuter awareness.

Throughout the month of February, businesses like Art Etc. will be collecting donations to help fill our Spay & Neuter Fund. The fund provides vouchers to help pet owners who wish to take the responsible action of spaying or neutering their pets, but need assistance.

Why is it so important to spay or neuter your pet? It reduces the chance of your pet developing certain cancers. It reduces roaming, aggression, messy heat cycles, marking or spraying, but most importantly, it reduces unwanted litters, thus reducing overpopulation and euthanasia. There’s really no reason not to as long as our shelters are full.

So how can you help? Easy! Simply visit one of the Spay & Nueter cards countertop businesses listed below, look for the donation cards, donate $5, and be sure to write your name as big as you can. You deserve this proud moment.

A big THANK YOU goes out to the following businesses for partnering up with BHS and for caring so much about such a worthy cause. You are truly heroes in our community!

Help Save Lives in Style!

Imagine a world that doesn’t euthanize millions of unwanted pets a year. That’s what we at Butte Humane Society are trying to achieve. The most responsible, practical, and outright obvious way to do that is by spaying and neutering your pets.

Proceeds from shirt sales go toward our Spay & Neuter Fund which provides vouchers to help pet owners who wish to help stop pet overpopulation, but need a little help from an amazing and supportive community like ours.

Unfortunately our fund has depleted and we need your help to fill it back up. Last year we issued 170 vouchers. This year we would like to double that number. Help us do that by purchasing a super awesome shirt from Booster.com.

If you’ve never made a purchase from Booster before, here’s how it works:

BHS designs a shirt and sets a goal for the number of shirts sold in a certain time frame. If the goal is met, Booster prints the shirts and mails them directly to the customer, then forwards the proceeds to BHS. There is no maximum. If the goal is not met however, Booster refunds all purchases directly back to those that did make a purchase. It’s good for the community and your wardrobe. So get your shirt today!

Your Support in Action-Cauliflower

Twelve-year-old Cauliflower was brought in to BHS by his Cauliflower hearts 1 owner to be euthanized. After our clinical staff looked him over, they determined that, although he was a “hot mess”, there was actually no medical need to put him down. Since Butte Humane Society lives to save lives, they offered to take him in and the owner agreed.

So what was wrong with Cauliflower? He came in with severe ear mites, decayed teeth, and a cold; all of which were treatable.

Thanks to the caring contributions of our community, our clinic was able to treat the mites and the cold as well as remove what was left of his teeth. Once all of his ailments were addressed, it was easy to see that he was “the cutest cat ever,” according to our adoptions crew. “He is super cuddly and affectionate. Most cats come out of treatment dazed and drowsy, but he came out purring and ready for belly rubs.”

It didn’t take long for the public to see that he was the cutest cat ever. Cauliflower was recently adopted into a loving home where he will get to spend the rest of his happy, healthy life. Without the support of the community, we wouldn’t have had the resources required to be able to save him. We are grateful to live in such a caring and compassionate community. Here’s to Cauliflower and here’s to you!
