Our family was looking to add an older dog to our small family. My two sons who are 4 and 14 years old wanted a dog, but we didn’t want a puppy. We wanted to give an older dog a forever home.
In January, I came to the shelter several times and asked to visit with the oldest dogs available for adoption. She proceeded to tell me about this sweet black dog in a pink sweater. The volunteer let me meet her and said she was such a sweetie but was a bit nervous at first. Her name was Cocoa. The first visit, Cocoa seemed a little uncomfortable but after a couple more visits, she warmed up. I figured it was time for my boys to come see the dogs and get their feelings on Cocoa.
We met her in the big play yard and she immediately warmed up to my oldest son and they were running around like nuts playing with a frisbee. I knew instantly that she was meant to be a part of our family.
She is a big softy and so protective of her boys! She shows her love for us and we couldn’t have found a better dog.
