I found Mr. Kitty wandering alone in my apartment complex. He was skinny, dirty and covered in fleas but extremely friendly and started purring the minute I picked him up. After asking around, it became apparent that someone had left him behind or dumped him here. My boyfriend and I had never owned a cat but we knew he needed some help. We would leave food and water outside our door and let him in when he came by.

We set up an appointment with Butte Humane to get him adopted into a permanent home. But when the time came to say goodbye, it was harder than we thought. We only lasted two days before going back to get him. I was surprised that he had already been neutered, vaccinated and tested by the vet staff. I immediately signed the paper work and made things official.

Now Mr. Kitty is adjusting to life as an indoor cat. He sleeps in between our heads at night and loves to be rocked like a baby. It is crazy to think someone could just abandon such a sweet boy but we feel so lucky to have him in our lives.

When I first met Callie at the shelter she scratched me when I tried to pet her and bit me when I fed her a treat. Even though I was skeptical, I went through with the adoption. I figured, if I was 17 years old living in a shelter, I would probably be a little grumpy too.

After bringing Callie home, she was a different cat. It took her a few days, but she quickly warmed up to me. She slept under my bed at first, but now I can’t get her off my bed. When we go to sleep, she will either sleep on my back, or we share the pillow. I usually have to lay down and get comfortable pretty quick because before I know it Callie will be cuddled up next to me. Callie is the most loving cat I have ever seen and loves to snuggle.

The adoption process went very smooth with the shelter. Everything was very easy, and I appreciate how the staff has stayed in contact. One little mishap, Callie had paperwork both from the shelter and previous owner and there were 3 different birthdays. So, we have decided to celebrate her birthday on July 4th. Callie will be 18 next year!

The adoption has been going AMAZING. It is by far the best thing Tyler and I have ever done. Duncan has become apart of the family since the first day we brought him home. We have kept the name assigned by the shelter because it just fits him so well! We knew the staff was sad to see him go, and now we understand why. He is such a great, intelligent and unique dog. He has stayed the same lovable pup, I think having him home with us has brought out the best in him. We could tell as soon as the first night we had him just how intelligent he is. He listened to us from the beginning and already knew sit and paw for a treat! He kept amazing us from then and still does every day. Duncan loves going on walks and sniffing EVERYTHING. But what he loves even more then sniffing is chasing cats and squirrels!

We have our roommates dog here for duck hunting season only, and at first it was a little aggressive between the two of them, but now they are the best of friends! More like brothers, the other dog has become very protective of Duncan and visa versa. They play together all day long in the backyard, and I know Duncan will be sad to see him go after the season is over.

We really haven’t encountered any challenges with Duncan. He is so smart, all we have to do is tell him no once and he obeys. Sometimes he likes to test our boundaries, but he knows exactly what he’s doing when he does it! Something very funny about him is he knows just how cute he is! When he wants something, he will give us the “puppy dog” eyes! It’s the cutest thing ever.

Being a volunteer, I remember when Tito was still in a kennel, and then became free-roaming in cattery 2. I had been wanting a kitty for some time, and the day we decided it was time to bring a kid with whiskers home, my partner and I visited BHS. We found Tito where he was lounging atop of a cat tree in cattery 2, and he let out a long, paw-flexing stretch and let me touch his belly. Yet each individual kitty was so sweet, so I got on the floor and played with all of them for awhile. I loved Tito’s playfulness particularly; and it seemed like he’d be a perfect napping buddy that still also had plenty of energy, which is exactly what we were hoping for. My partner also fell in love with Tito’s unique, almost dog-like personality, so I came back the next day to make things official! The adoption process was a breeze thanks to Shelby, she was very helpful.

What a treat this puppy has been as an addition to our family. Ginger (previously named Faith) has been warmly welcomed into our home and our lifestyle. We are avid campers during the Spring – Fall. Now that Ginger has had all of her shots, and is registered with the City of Sacramento she has gained free reign of the wilderness with us. In fact, she was just practicing her kayaking and swimming skills up in Plumas National Forest at Little Grass Valley Reservoir. She has also already visited the Russian River and has a trip scheduled for Scott’s Flat Reservoir.

We are so happy with how warm and lovey Ginger is too. She gets plenty of snuggles and all the attention she could ask for. Ginger is such a kind puppy. We really are lucky to have found her. Thank you Butte Humane Society, for pairing us with our sweet puppy. We love her so much.
