Why did you get involved with volunteering at BHS? – I retired last year after 30+ years in college athletics administration. I have always loved animals and I thought this would be a great volunteer opportunity for me. The fact that I live just a few blocks away and can walk to BHS gives me some additional exercise as well!
What is your favorite part of volunteering at BHS? – While I like cats, I love dogs. The best part of volunteering at BHS – and I’ve told several people this – is that unlike any other place of “employment” – these guys are always so happy to see me! I know down deep the dogs are just as happy to see anyone show up who might give them some love and attention, but it’s a pretty special feeling to see my buddies each week.
Is there anything you have learned at BHS that you have carried into your personal experiences or shared with others? I share photos of the animals with my family and friends and promote BHS as a great place to find that next member of your family.
Do you have any animals of your own? I have always had dogs ever since I was a kid except for when I was in college and for a two-year period after my Aussie/mix, Bandit, went over the Rainbow Bridge. I needed to take some time after that. But we were so lucky to find another rescue pup (Cooper) from Wags and Whiskers a few years ago and he is the best little mutt there is! We also have a rescue cat that has used up all of his nine lives and is now 15 and still going strong.
