Emma began volunteering at BHS in October of last year and we have been so lucky to have her help. She has consistently been at the shelter helping us walk the pups and recently leveled up to be able to help us walk the dogs who are working on their leash manners. Emma is always up for a challenge! We were so happy to see she decided to join us for another semester through Chico State’s CAVE program and couldn’t be more grateful. Here’s to Emma and we hope to have her with us at BHS for many more!
Why did you get involved with volunteering at BHS?
I first got involved with volunteering at BHS to gain experience in working with dogs and cats as I am a pre-vet student at California State University, Chico. I also really enjoy being around animals and felt this was the perfect place to give back to my community.
What is your favorite part of volunteering at BHS?
My favorite part about volunteering at BHS is getting to walk to the dogs. I’ve grown up having pets my entire life and being able to help out animals that don’t have homes is really special to me.
Is there anything you have learned during your time at BHS that you have shared with others?
Since volunteering here I’ve learned how great it is to give back to your community which is why I encourage all of my friends and family to volunteer whenever they have the chance as it is so rewarding.
Do you have any animals of your own? If not, do you have a favorite at the shelter?
I have a German shepherd at home named Luna who is about 4 years old. Being at college it’s hard not getting to see her all the time but it makes visiting home that much better! My favorite dog here at BHS is Hugo as he is super sweet and always loves getting pets and snuggles.
