Shannon Wright
Dog Intake Coordinator, Canine Behaviorist, Dog Adoption Lead
My name is Shannon Wright I’m the Canine Intake Specialist & Dog Adoptions Lead for Butte Humane Society. My role here at Butte Humane Society is to assess the temperament of incoming dogs for the adoptions program and lead the Dog Adoptions Counselors through their roles with animal care, client care, and adoptions.
I began working with Canines in October of 2010 as a kennel assistant for a kennel that raised Champion Giant Schnauzers located in Sebastopol Ca. A huge property dedicated to Schnauzers of all sizes and Llamas! From that position on I knew I had a passion for canines and I wanted to continue in the pet care industry.
In 2011 I ventured on to a multipurpose pet care business in a leading Daycare and Boarding facility. During this time I became well versed in canine socialization while providing excellent care for our boarding pets. During my four years at this establishment, I gained the title of assistant boarding manager. My responsibilities included overseeing all boarding pets’ wellness and ensuring their boarding, daycare, grooming, and training services were provided on a daily basis. I loved to work on the 4th of July because we would create late-night playgroups in each and pump up the music while the fireworks went off. The dogs loved it and hardly realized there were fireworks going on at the same time.
After earning my Associate’s Degree in Sociology I relocated to Butte County and became employed at a local daycare and training business. It’s here that I began a level of interest in positive reinforcement training & clicker training. I worked in the daycare department & assisted the owner & head trainer in evening classes. On the weekends I would greet new training clients and their dogs to help prepare them for their upcoming class.
I earned my Professional trainer certification from Animal Behavior College (ABCDT) in November 2018. I was fortunate to be mentored by a local positive reinforcement trainer and practice positive methods with each and every dog. I’m currently earning my Fear Free Dog Training Certification.
I absolutely love my role here at Butte Humane Society. Every day I get the pleasure of welcoming Canines into our Adoptions Program. I assess their temperament in our care and help them to make improvements in behavior here at the shelter. Ultimately the goal of my position is to guide and support the canines on their journey to finding their forever homes. I love building positive relationships with our dogs and I find it tremendously rewarding to be a part of their life and play an important role in giving them a second chance at the life they truly deserve.
